Keynote Speaker
Jason LaClair is an esteemed Coast Salish artist of both Lummi (Lhaq’temish) and Nooksack heritage, deeply rooted in the cultural landscapes of Whatcom County. Raised among master carvers and Coast Salish artists, LaClair began his artistic journey around the age of nine, studying Northern Formline art before embracing the traditional shapes and motifs of his own Coast Salish ancestors—circles, crescents, and trigons—a transformation that has deeply enriched his creative voice.
His work goes beyond aesthetics—it bridges ancestral heritage and modern innovation, bringing Coast Salish art to public landscapes and growing community identity. His journey—marked by self-discovery, community dedication, and artistic revival—resonates with the spirit of entrepreneurship and cultural resilience that defines the Native Small Business Fair.
