ZenWrockz: Art That Wraps Stories Around Stones
ZenWrockz is an art studio and gift shop in Bellingham owned by Lori Marshall. She and her husband, Swil Kanim, came to PNTL for financing to start the business. “If you’re going to start a business, start with someone you trust,” says Swil Kanem. “That’s why PNTL is the perfect marriage for our business. We knew we couldn’t take this to a normal bank and say ‘invest with us, partner with us, help us make this happen’. I really feel we have a partner in PNTL that we can come to and say ‘what can we do to make this work’ and they help us.” “They want us to succeed as much as we want to succeed,” says Lori. “They even have workshops to help small businesses. I can’t even tell you how helpful that was.”
Through culturally informed coaching and asset-building support from Pacific Northwest Tribal Lending, Lori expanded into a flourishing small business. With guidance on loan planning, financial detailing, and business structure, she found the confidence and tools to bring ZenWrockz to wider communities.
Lori handpicks each rock from the beaches and shores of the Pacific Northwest and adds her own element of creativity and inspiration. Each rock is wrapped with leather cord and an occasional beach glass or gemstone. These works of art can be used as a centerpiece, mantel piece or in meditation practices. They are a beautiful addition to your rock collection and decor.
They tell stories of times long past. “My hope in creating this artwork is to be able to share the beauty and ‘zenergy’ of the Pacific Northwest. Each piece is wrapped with the energy of Love, Peace and Tranquility.” – Lori Marshall
This success reflects PNTL’s mission: to support Native entrepreneurs with tools rooted in culture, creating sustainable businesses that bring resilience and creativity back to our communities.
